In May 1964, Mount Mary College awarded an Honorary Degree to Nelle Harper Lee, Pulitzer Prize winning author of To Kill A Mockingbird. In accepting the honor Ms. Lee traveled to Mount Mary and took part in commencement ceremonies, which resulted in a friendship between her and Sister John Francis Schuh, President of Mount Mary.
