This faculty memorandum consists of the announcement of an Honorary Degree being awarded to Harper Lee May 31, 1964.
In May 1964, Mount Mary College awarded an Honorary Degree to Nelle Harper Lee, Pulitzer Prize winning author of To Kill A Mockingbird. In accepting the honor Ms. Lee traveled to Mount Mary and took part in commencement ceremonies, which resulted in a friendship between her and Sister Mary John Francis Schuh, President of Mount Mary.
