From left to right: Brenda Lockwood, Harper Lee, and Louise Mueller. This photograph was likely taken at some point surrounding the 1964 Commencement activities.
In May 1964, Mount Mary College awarded an Honorary Degree to Nelle Harper Lee, Pulitzer Prize winning author of To Kill A Mockingbird. In accepting the honor Ms. Lee traveled to Mount Mary and took part in commencement ceremonies, which resulted in a friendship between her and Sister John Francis Schuh, President of Mount Mary.
