    This shawl was originally white when it was made in the early 19th century. It yellowed and was subsequently dyed black.

  • Black wool shoulder shawl; multicolored jacquard edges; 5 inches wide with self-fringe; embroidered flowers in red and green above edges; shawl is figured so both right side of edges shown when worn; 59.5 inches by 59.5 inches; English or Scottish origin.
