Worn with coat (Object ID #1997.422.b) to form two piece ensemble. This item was created by Gustave Tassell for Norman Norell fashion house. -

The dress was worn by Mrs. Frances Howard Robb (wife of James Robb) at the White House wedding of her son Charles Robb to Lynda Bird Johnson, daughter of President Lyndon B. Johnson, on December 9, 1967. -

Ronald Amey, New York designer, stands with Dorothy Knowles (Mrs. Warren P. Knowles, wife of the newly re-elected Wisconsin governor Warren P. Knowles; née Guidry) and Sister John Francis (president of Mount Mary College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin). At the right is the inaugural gown that Amey designed for Mrs. Knowles to wear to her husband's inaugural ball in early 1967. After the ball, Mrs. Knowles presented the dress to Mount Mary College, at which time this picture was taken. -
