This brief article in the Mount Mary Alumnae News discusses the 1964 commencement ceremonies and Harper Lee's visit to Mount Mary College.
In May 1964, Mount Mary College awarded an Honorary Degree to Nelle Harper Lee, Pulitzer Prize winning author of To Kill A Mockingbird. In accepting the honor Ms. Lee traveled to Mount Mary and took part in commencement ceremonies, which resulted in a friendship between her and Sister John Francis Schuh, President of Mount Mary. -
