  • Blue/green changeant silk taffeta evening gown; yoke of blue/green silk chiffon; set-in one-piece long sleeves in chiffon; low scoop neckline in back; dress body of taffeta; center front seam; gathered at center back; ankle length; not lined; no closures.
  • Black, white, and beige striped silk chiffon ensemble. A. Blouse; high neckline with small standing collar; four snaps at collar; long sleeves ending in bound cuffs; sleeves gathered at shoulder cap; flared and gathered peplum; large ruffle from left shoulder down and incorporated into peplum; hand-rolled hems on fly-away ruffle; two snap closures at left waist. B. Harem pants; band at waist; two snaps and zipper closure at center back; voluminous pant legs end in tight cuffs at ankles with each cuff closed with two snaps. C. Belt; middle part of belt lined with solid taupe fabric under silk, and black on the back; unbacked ties at either end; chiffon at middle of belt is gathered. D. Light taupe silk charmeuse teddy; bias-cut; V-neckline; spaghetti straps; gathering at bust; small inverted triangular cut-out just below center bust; seams down center back and center front; very short inseam. Accompanied by original sketch of garment (Object ID #2024.02.02).

    Designed and built by the Fashion Design student as a couture project in 1981 at Mount Mary College. Val recalls being mentored by Sister Aloyse Hessburg and Charles Kleibacker (especially in fitting). The fabric was purchased from Kovack Fabrics in downtown Milwaukee where she worked for numerous years.
  • A. Red chiffon gown with black polka dots; gathered scoop neckline; no waist shaping; long sleeves; ankle length; dress is lined, sleeves are sheer; zipper closure in back lining; snaps at back in chiffon; dress is smocked onto binding at neckline. Missing belt.
  • Pink chiffon dress with clusters of pink sequins; high square neckline edged with parallel rows of sequins; 3/4 length sleeves; straight silhouette; center back zipper closure; knee length; lined in pink crepe; no label.
  • A. Black polyester evening dress; camisole bodice with spaghetti straps; natural waistline; accordion pleated skirt; floor length. B. Copper and black metallic floral print chiffon evening blouse; blouson; knit neckline, cuffs, and waistband.
  • Black 4-ply silk crepe and chiffon evening gown; deep V-neckline in front; sleeveless; A-line silhouette in crepe; black silk chiffon capelet extends from front neckline to back, hanging freely to knees in back; shoulders lined in beige soufflé; center back zipper closure; ankle length.

    This gown was used by Sister Aloyse Hessburg and Charles Kleibacker for their couture class.
  • Reproduction of Valentina white evening gown worn by Lynn Fontanne (Object ID #1983.185); white chiffon; low V-neckline; full, long bishop sleeves; attached waist ties wrap around the midriff; very large gored skirt; ankle length; lined.

    This was made for an exhibition. The maker Pam Rehberg was a professor of theatrical costume at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

B. Pink velvet belt. This item was created by Norman Norell for Traina-Norell fashion house.
  • A. Turquoise satin wrap evening gown; deep V-neckline to waist at both front and back; thin strap at base of neck at neck connects front and back; sleeveless; overlap that snaps in front at waist; 3 covered button closure at center back waistline; draped skirt open from waist to hem in both front and back; deep pleats over hips; ankle length. "Beginning Impressions" tag. B. Turquoise chiffon and satin striped cocoon style jacket; thin gold stripe fabric; fabric gathered into neck edge and wrist edges; edges bound with turquoise satin; button and loop closures at wrists; not lined; couture techniques throughout.

    Worn with jacket (Object ID #2012.07.03.b) to form two piece evening ensemble.

  • Natural straw picture hat; four inch wide brim; hatband of coral chiffon, covers vertical surface of crown; hot pink headsize band; no lining.
  • Natural straw Breton hat; white synthetic chiffon hatband; hat pin with glass ball.
  • Black chiffon and lace handkerchief; center is chiffon (12 inch square); 6.5 inch lace borders; 25 inch square. Probably used by Hildegarde in performance.
  • Black crepe and chiffon evening gown; four inch wide bias strips of sequins on bodice and one sleeve; rounded neckline; sleeves and top are one piece with gussets under arm; one sleeve is sheer black chiffon; seven small covered button closures at each wrist; eleven covered button closures at center back; slightly padded bustline; black crepe skirt; side train with skirt gathered at side seams to form large scallop; brownish pink lining shows through chiffon between sequin strips. Worn by Hildegarde.
  • Off-white crepe and chiffon evening gown; plunging neckline; orange, turquoise, and silver beading along neckline and straps, coming to bow at front; smocking at shoulder straps and midriff; padded bust-line; low back with beaded braid following around; back zipper closure; skirt flares from right below midriff, gathered at bow; full skirt, lined in satin-back crepe. Worn with slip. Purchased in 1942. Worn by Hildegarde.

  • Black chiffon evening gown; sweetheart neckline; lace bodice with pink underneath; padded puff sleeves; padded bustline; full skirt; side zipper closure; stiff along hemline; crepe underskirt is weighted. Purchased 2/29/1940. Worn by Hildegarde. This gown was custom-made for Hildegarde at Bergdorf-Goodman

  • Heavy beige lace over white satin back crepe and white chiffon evening gown; strapless; wide band of lined white-beige mutation mink around top; long, straight, very slim skirt; concealed center back zipper with hook, eye, and snap closure; attached off-white boned inner bodice. Made exclusively for L. S. Ayres & Co., Indianapolis.
