  • Gray wool flannel ensemble. A. Dark gray jacket; boxy; notched collar, faced upper; button at center back; one inch fabric tie under collar that laps over and buttons with 1.5 inch diameter silver button; button has Russian style crest design; two double welt pockets with flaps at hipline; straight sleeve with turned back cuff.
  • Gunmetal gray silk ensemble. A. Blouse; jewel neckline; sleeveless; vertical pleats; covered buttons down back under placket; lined in light gray taffeta; hip length. B. Skirt; straight silhouette; cut on bias; straight waistband; zipper closure; above the knee length.

  • Dark brown and gray silk chiffon cocktail dress; tiered style; very low V-neckline; cape style overbodice; 4 button back closure.
  • Gray wool crepe day dress; jewel neckline with bias fabric band; short kimono sleeves with gusset; French darts; skirt gathered at sides; back closure has six pearl buttons with zipper on skirt; lined in gray china silk.
  • Gray wool crepe A-line dress; bateau neckline; sleeveless; empire waist with insert, tiny triple darts under bustline; plunging back with center back zipper closure and self-fabric tie; A-line skirt; full evening length.
  • Gray wool flannel dress; jewel neckline; sleeveless; seam going down center front, forms into box pleat; 2 princess seams that come down into waist and form box pleats, one princess seam starts at shoulder and other starts at middle of front armhole; 3 horizontal seams; one goes through center front seam and is located right under bust, extending from center seam to first princess seams on each side; other horizontal seams are side seams that extend .5 inch from armpits and go to first princess seam closest to side of garment; center back zipper closure that forms into box pleat; 2 back princess seams on either side of zipper, these also form box pleats; knee length. The donor, Sharon Lipinski, constructed this dress in Sister Aloyse Hessburg's Couture class.
  • Child's gray polyester flannel dress; white piqué shawl collar and dickey edged in eyelet; long sleeves with inverted pleats; white piqué cuffs; five stitched-down box pleats at center front, released below waistline; center back zipper closure with inverted pleat; self-fabric ties at center back.
  • Gray linen fit and flare dress; natural waistline; square neckline; pewter button center front closure; top-stitched trim; sleeves cut in shoulder line; short sleeves; circular skirt with mock tiers created with top-stitching; mid-calf length.
  • Light and dark gray heathered wool flannel dress; small shawl collar with 3 covered buttons; long kimono sleeves; side zipper closure; horizontal seam just under bust, above light gray and below dark gray; 4 gore skirt; mid-calf length.
  • Gray and black wool jersey dress; knitted design resembling herringbone in gray and black, with vertical stripes of khaki green; mandarin collar; center front opening with 6 brass buttons; stitched-down pleats extending from shoulder to skirt at front and back; pleats stitched down at shoulder and again at waist; long one-piece set-in sleeves; mid-calf length; side inseam pockets; there was probably a matching belt which is now missing.
  • Gray, mustard, and white plaid wool dress; standing collar; raised waistline; long sleeves; inseam pockets; full skirt; knee length; completely worked in bias plaid.

  • A. Gray and white plain weave linen dress; gray bodice, white skirt; sleeveless; low sweetheart neckline; 1.5 inch wide off-the-shoulder straps; center front seam with gathers at bust; large bow and double cording at bust; waistline seam is rounded; back waistline scoops down to lower back; hand-picked long zipper; A-line skirt; ankle length; skirt gathered in center front and center back; entirely backed in white crepe du chine.

    Worn with shrug (Object ID #2004.03.428.b) to form two piece ensemble.
  • Pearl gray crepe dressing gown; square set-in sleeves, very full; 3 inch turned-back cuffs; 10 button front closure, hand-worked buttonholes and covered buttons; floor length; lined in pink crepe. Worn with sash (Object ID #1985.08.b).

    Worn by Lynn Fontanne. This dressing gown is heavily inspired by a Molyneux piece worn by Lynn in the play "O Mistress Mine." Lynn had this dressing gown made by the custom dressmakers at Saks Fifth Avenue for her personal use for a more affordable price. Donor was the niece of Lynn Fontanne and Alfred Lunt.
  • Charcoal gray silk kimono-style evening gown; red and orange shapes running vertically from armscye to bottom of skirt (likely a batik process); 3/4 length sleeves with turned-back cuffs; slits at lower edge of skirt; attached scarf flows from neckline; long skirt.

  • Pale yellow and gray silk chiffon evening gown; slight scoop neckline; sleeveless; high-waisted bodice with draped cummerbund effect; bodice covered with 1/2 inch crystal beads; panel of yellow chiffon attached at back shoulders. Performance evening gown worn by Hildegarde.
  • Pale gray satin evening gown; spaghetti straps covered in bar and round rhinestones; princess seams; high waistline; covered button and loop closure in back; trained A-line skirt, backed in white organza; couture techniques with hand-finishing.

  • Gray jersey evening gown; front yoke is V-shaped; high neckline; A-line bias-cut skirt; tiny cap sleeves; back yoke dips to waist in back; hand-picked zipper in back; unlined; ankle length.

    This gown was used by Sister Aloyse Hessburg and Charles Kleibacker for their couture class.

  • Pale gray silk satin and wool jersey hostess gown; roll collar; bodice and long sleeves of heathered wool jersey; rolled back satin cuffs; floor length silk satin skirt gathered at natural waist; center back zipper closure; belt loops at side seams, but belt is missing.

    Worn by Audrey Ross. She was part of the Ross family who owned J. H. Collectibles.
