Ivory wool theater coat; shawl collar; two large button and loop closures at center front; long sleeves, gathered at shoulders; lace and soutache trim at sleeve hems; soutache trim on collar and along princess seams at front and back; satin lining; mid-calf length. Part of a theater suit with dress (Object ID #2022.05.01.a).
This suit is an exact reproduction of a 1908 theater suit in the collection of the Wisconsin State Historical Society. The donor made this replica as her senior project in Fashion Design at Mount Mary College in 1974. -

This item was created by Norman Norell for Traina-Norell fashion house. -

"Beginning Impressions" tag. B. Turquoise chiffon and satin striped cocoon style jacket; thin gold stripe fabric; fabric gathered into neck edge and wrist edges; edges bound with turquoise satin; button and loop closures at wrists; not lined; couture techniques throughout.

Black silk satin wrap-around over-skirt; worn with the opening at center front, does not completely close. Extended ties fasten at center front, bustle-like effect at center back with pleated and weighted material, Made from one continuous piece of fabric, full length. Design was still in progress. Possibly worn over pink taffeta skirt (Object ID #2008.01.44). Worn by Valentina.
