B. Skirt; very slim; bias bound slash pockets and slim skirt with bias bound slash pockets; zipper on left side. C. Putty colored silk jacquard vest; pattern of gray, beige, and brown leaves; shawl collar; seven self-covered buttons and bound buttonholes; fitted; pointed center front; watch pocket on right side; back is plain putty colored silk, underlined in matching silk; half belt with pewter colored metal buckle. Worn with coat (Object ID #2004.03.368.A) to form three piece suit. -
Skirt suit
Brown linen skirt suit. A. Jacket; collarless, square set-in sleeves, seaming at back creates a peplum shape, three 1/2" covered buttons and bound buttonhole closure at center front. B. Skirt; dirndl style, large pleat worked as part of each inset pocket.
Worn by Lynn Fontanne. Donor was the niece of Lynn Fontanne and Alfred Lunt. -

B. Red linen weave rayon skirt with floral and block print cotton apron; narrow apron is oval shaped; bright yellow geometric stitched hip panels; stitched-down loose panel in back reveals cotton printed and stitched panels; red waistband.

Christian Dior was a pioneer in brand licensing, which refers to when a designer or brand allows an approved manufacturer to produce and sell products bearing the designer's label. Christian Dior Separates was a licensed Dior line popular in the 1970s-1990s. This means that while this garment bears the Christian Dior label, it was imported, manufactured, or distributed by another company. -

Donor noted that this ensemble was made for the opening of Marshall Field's store on Michigan Avenue, possibly referring to the opening of Marshall Field's in Water Tower Place in 1975. -
