Black silk crepe evening gown; strapless; six white narrow vertical strips applied evenly along gown with white bows at top; strips run down dress below knee, flaring out with six godets; black sequin beading runs completely around white strips; corselet bodice understructure, back hook closures; center back zipper with hook and eye closures. Worn by Hildegarde for the first time in Milwaukee in 1948. -

Long black silk crepe evening gown; cut-out front neckline; bias cut; fabric has been slashed to permit black plastic disks to be inserted in the circles; trains in back; hand-overcast. Some disks are broken or missing. -

A. Navy blue silk crepe dress with white stripes; jewel neckline; bodice cut on the bias; bodice has navy lining; white domed button closures up center back; seam at natural waistline; long set-in sleeves with shoulder pads; three buttons at back sleeve cuffs; pleated skirt; mid-calf length; double folded hem at bottom. B. White leather belt; oval-shaped white buckle with navy blue edging; "Galanos" printed inside.

Worn with belt (Object ID #2008.09.53.b). Belt is removed here to make the pleating visible.

B. White silk crepe slip; detached from dress. C. White floral silk twill cape; printed with orange poppies with green and brown leaves; slits at sides and center back; lined in white silk. Cape was likely attached to dress originally. -

Custom made for Hildegarde and used as a performance gown in the Persian Room of the Plaza Hotel, New York City. -
