D. Light taupe silk charmeuse teddy; bias-cut; V-neckline; spaghetti straps; gathering at bust; small inverted triangular cut-out just below center bust; seams down center back and center front; very short inseam.
Worn with blouse (Object ID #2024.02.01.a), harem pants (Object ID #2024.02.01.b), and belt (Object ID #2024.02.01.c) as part of four piece ensemble.
Accompanied by original sketch of garment (Object ID #2024.02.02).
Designed and built by the Fashion Design student as a couture project in 1981 at Mount Mary College. Val recalls being mentored by Sister Aloyse Hessburg and Charles Kleibacker (especially in fitting). The fabric was purchased from Kovack Fabrics in downtown Milwaukee where she worked for numerous years. -

Detail of tunic slits and skirt pockets
A. Gray wool tweed tunic; fabric is woven with thin black warp and thicker brown weft with small, randomized flecks of red, green, blue, and yellow; contrast fabric is colorful large-scale plaid woven cotton; rounded bertha style collar in contrast fabric with six lines of smocking; long raglan sleeves; flared cuffs with three black spherical button closures; this same button closure is on the back collar as well as a center back zipper closure; 24.5 inch slit down side seams; colorful plaid contrast fabric runs along hem, side seams, armscyes and cuffs in .5 inch wide strips; mid-calf length; label: "KOOS Koos Van Den Akker, New York". B. Multicolored large-scale plaid cotton skirt; dirndl style; three contrasting trims; first, a white, gray, and magenta dot print forming diamonds that runs horizontally around the hip, knee, and 1.5 inches above the hem; second, a faded pastel floral print running horizontally below the knee; third, purple, blue, turquoise, and gray woven twill running along hem; elastic at waistline; welt pockets along side seams; mid-calf length.
Note how the slits in the tunic perfectly line up with the pockets on the skirt underneath.
