  • Salmon pink silk chiffon evening ensemble. A. Gown with faceted crystal tear drops and band of silver bugle beads; tiny bugle beading and rhinestones at high waist; four layers of chiffon. B. Pale pink capelet; trimmed with tear drop beads. C. Scarf; triangular shaped; trimmed with tear drop beads. Worn as a performance ensemble by Hildegarde.
  • A. Multi-colored silk chiffon evening gown with woven stripes; bucol fabric in green, red, and blue; jewel neckline; full raglan sleeves; A-line silhouette; cut on bias; hand-picked back zipper with four covered decorative buttons; long skirt. B. Peach silk chiffon underdress; V-neckline front and back; long skirt. C. Multi-colored silk chiffon scarf; bucol fabric in green, red, and blue; worn at neckline, flows down back. Performance ensemble worn by Hildegarde.

  • A. Two-tone blue and turquoise silk crepe jacket; boxy silhouette; shawl collar with turquoise underlayer at collar and front edge; straight sleeves with turquoise turned-back cuffs; unlined. B. Turquoise silk crepe skirt; dirndl style; layered, ankle length with longer blue underlayer that matches color of jacket. C. Two-tone blue and turquoise beaded braid tie belt.

    Stains on jacket on both left and right sides.
  • A. Ivory silk shantung suit jacket; cardigan style; notched collar of red and ivory check; long straight sleeves; 2 single welt pockets. B. Red and ivory check bias blouse; roll collar of ivory bias silk; sleeveless; side zipper closure. C. Ivory silk shantung suit skirt; inverted pleats; hung on silk camisole top; knee length.
  • Bright yellow linen ensemble. A. Over-blouse; low round neckline; white V-shaped insert at neckline banded with purple; full center back zipper closure. B. Suit jacket; semi-fitted; 1.5 inch mandarin collar; 3/4 length sleeves; mock flap pockets. C. Suit skirt; pleated; three 4 inch front inverted pleats; fully lined.

    Worn by donor Mrs. FitzSimmons to the horse races. The winning horse was called "Stupendous," and Mrs. FitzSimmons was wearing the jockey's colors of yellow and purple.

Straight skirt; high-rise waistline; knee length. C. Vest; reverse fabric from rest of suit; 3 button center front closure.
  • A. Navy blue, red, and white wool/rayon knit cardigan sweater; diamond and stripe pattern; gold lion head buttons. B. Navy blue wool/rayon knit skirt; elastic waistband; knit-in godets.

    The third piece of this ensemble is a pair of pants (Object ID #1988.143.c) that can be worn with the sweater; the three pieces are not intended to be worn simultaneously.

  • A. Black brushed silk overdress; 3/4 length sleeves; ivory organza cuffs; empire bodice; open at back with deep V; black satin bow with streamers; uneven hemline; small hole in front skirt. B. Black brushed silk underdress; back is brushed silk, front is taffeta; sleeveless taffeta bodice. C. Ivory organza blouse; worn backwards to fill in "V" of overdress; ruffled neckline and sleeve cuffs; snap and hook and eye closures. Ensemble was worn with cape (Object ID #1983.212).

    Worn by Lynn Fontanne. Made by Lynn Fontanne using a Jacques Griffe Vogue pattern, which she reworked to give the overdress a deep V back. The ensemble was originally worn with a white ruffled dickey. Donor was the niece of Lynn Fontanne and Alfred Lunt
