Worn by Lynn Fontanne. Purchased at the auction of Lynn Fontanne's estate using funds from Mount Mary alumnae. -
Evening coat
Pale gold silk shantung evening coat; square set 3/4 length sleeves; Hong Kong seam finishes; floor length. Worn with evening gown (Object ID #1983.254).
Worn by Lynn Fontanne to receive a special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in 1970, although the gown was created much earlier. This gown was possibly made by Valentina, but has been significantly altered. Purchased at the auction of Lynn Fontanne's estate using funds from Mount Mary alumnae. -
Tunic and skirt without jacket
A. Pale orange silk/rayon burnout velvet tunic. Lavender and metallic gold velvet flowers and leaves pattern; Lower section is lace in lavender and gold; sleeveless; knee length; Deep v-neckline; one button closure at the waistline. C. Lavender and gold lace skirt; straight silhouette; straight waistband with invisible zipper; Lined in nude tulle.
Worn with jacket (Object ID #2013.04.06.B) to form evening suit ensemble. -
Valentino Boutique ensemble
Evening suit ensemble. A. Pale orange silk/rayon burnout velvet tunic; lavender and metallic gold velvet flowers and leaves pattern, lower section is lavender and gold lace, sleeveless, deep v-neckline, one button closure at the waistline, knee length. B. Lavender and gold lace jacket; surplice front, low v-neckline, long set-in sleeves, loops for buttons, lined in beige tulle. C. Lavender and gold lace skirt; straight silhouette, straight waistband with invisible zipper, lined in beige tulle. -
Cape
Gold silk marquisette burnoose cape; shape is triangular with tip snipped off to form a ‘hood’ or turned back section. Tip folds back over the back of the neck, shorter length at center back, unlined, completely hand finished. Unusual piece. Worn with white charmeuse gown (Object ID #1995.342). Worn by Valentina. -
Dinner dress
Gold jersey ankle length dinner dress; gathered jewel neckline with small slit on center front, bodice has side seams. High-waisted skirt with seams on center front and princess line, no side seams. Batwing long sleeves, back button closure at neck. Large keyhole upper back is open between neck and midriff, back waist is pieced in five narrow V-shaped panels divided by a metal zipper with hook and eye at top of skirt. Back of skirt has seams on the princess line. Dress is very worn, especially at seams; large repairs on front of bodice, several small patches.
According to Charles Kleibacker this dress is from the personal wardrobe of Gloria Swanson (1899-1983). -
Bolero
Gold silk hopsack bolero jacket; V neckline slightly open at top, asymmetrical front wrap secured with gold hardware style snap hook and metal eyes, drop shoulder sleeves with gussets, dips slightly at center back, unlined, hand finished. Worn by Valentina. -

B. Black wool jersey mock wrap-around skirt; straight; full evening length. C. Black wool jersey blouse; woven abstract pattern in gold, silver, and black lurex; center front button closure with five faceted glass buttons; convertible collar; bishop sleeves. -

Black silk chiffon evening gown; large scale metallic gold floral brocade pattern; A-line; jewel neckline with petal ruffle; bishop sleeves with petal ruffle at wrist; A-line skirt; full evening length; lined with black chiffon. -

B. Royal blue velvet stole; 18 x 118 inches. Gown and stole form performance ensemble worn by Hildegarde. -

Worn by donor, Mrs. Frances Howard Robb, at the wedding of her son Charles Spittal Robb to Lynda Bird Johnson, the daughter of President Lyndon B. Johnson and Lady Bird Johnson, at the White House, December 9, 1967. Designed by Sister Aloyse Hessburg. -

Gold silk and faille taffeta dress; A-line construction; asymmetrical closure with hip zipper and four bound buttonholes; small stand-up collar; 3/4 length sleeves; fully lined.
Worn with matching hat (Object ID #1967.02). Worn by donor, Mrs. Frances Howard Robb, at the wedding of her son Charles Spittal Robb to Lynda Bird Johnson, the daughter of President Lyndon B. Johnson and Lady Bird Johnson, at the White House, December 9, 1967.
