  • A. Bright yellow-orange mohair coat; asymmetrical roll collar, trapeze silhouette, two large plastic buttons on each shoulder, long set-in sleeves, midcalf length, unlined. B. Matching mohair capelet; decorated with appliqués in blue, purple, and green mohair and blue printed cotton. Edged in yellow leather, buttons on the right shoulder over the coat.

  • Black patchwork leather jacket; made up of many squares with pinked edges; standing collar; center front opening with three yellow metal toggle clasps; long set-in sleeves; hip length; lined in black crepe.
  • Floor length coat with small rolled collar and long sleeves. Printed in shades of hot pink, large scale leopards printed across garment. Center front button closure. Lined, size 12.
  • Three-piece, single breasted skirt suit. Vertically quilted jacket with mandarin collar and center front button closure. Straight set-in sleeves with button placket and chain link belt with Givenchy logo. Paired with quilted knee length pencil skirt with side zipper and hip panels. Size 6.

  • Blue fur double breasted coat with standing collar. Notched sleeve cuffs, back button-on half belt, and angled pocket flaps., Lined.
  • Black double breasted coat with gathered peplum skirt, standing collar, and topstitched princess seams. Set-in sleeves with button detail noted.
  • Black spaghetti strap evening gown with bust shirring. Empire waist. Ruffle at knee and hem, back zipper closure, lined in black taffeta. Ankle length. Paired with red organza jacket with embroidered dots. Ruffle neck, opening, and hem. Three-quarter length sleeves, ruffle hem.
  • Beige with brown spatter print silk ensemble. A. Fit and flare dress; normal waist, halter neckline, center back nylon zipper. Halter has a front slit with a reverse, skirt is gathered. Unlined, knee length. B. A-line coat; jewel neckline, Chinese ball and loop center front closure, 3/4 length kimono sleeves, cut in one with the coat. Same length as dress, unlined. Possibly had longer sleeves at some point. C. Short bolero jacket; jewel neckline, 3/4 length kimono sleeves, cut in one with body of jacket. French darts, unlined. D. Wrap, single piece of fabric. E. Belt latches in back with hook and eyes and snap closure. Small, flat bow.

    This ensemble was used for Valentina's famous "Quick change" routine.
  • Pale gold silk shantung evening coat; square set 3/4 length sleeves; Hong Kong seam finishes; floor length. Worn with evening gown (Object ID #1983.254).

    Worn by Lynn Fontanne to receive a special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in 1970, although the gown was created much earlier. This gown was possibly made by Valentina, but has been significantly altered. Purchased at the auction of Lynn Fontanne's estate using funds from Mount Mary alumnae.
  • Black chenille long evening coat; solid black sequins and cross bars of black chenille; architecturally structured with straight front and long straight strips of chenille between sequins; wide back and sides of angled strips of chenille; strips of cellophane embedded beneath sequins to create glimmer effect. Custom made for Hildegarde.
  • Cranberry red heavy fulled wool flannel swing evening coat; all-over rhinestones applied with rivets; standing collar; set-in sleeves widen at elbow; inseam pockets on modified princess line; cranberry red silk lining; most rhinestone have lost their red paint. Worn by Hildegarde.
  • Celadon green double silk ribbed twill evening coat; inset "V" at back neck; Ruana shape: square open in front, sides sewn together to knees, open to ankles; longer in back than front. Worn by Hildegarde as a performance coat.
  • Black silk taffeta evening coat; A-line trapeze shape, jewel neckline, tucks off of neckline; one button and bound buttonhole closure at center front neck, short batwing sleeves with tucks, A-line skirt with deep pleats at underarm side seams, hidden pockets, tea length, appears to have been re-lined. Worn by Valentina.
  • Beige silk gazierre evening coat; cardigan style, convertible collar, dolman sleeves, clutch, no center front closure, unusual seaming, inseam pockets; midcalf length, lined with silk taffeta. Lustrous thread in fabric gives subtle shine. Small red stains near pockets. Worn by Valentina.
  • Black silk satin cardigan evening coat with large cut velvet flower design; neck built up, no front closure, single welt inseam pockets, straight short sleeves, flange down center back, underlined with silk organza, completely hand-overcast and finished. Worn by Valentina. Possibly 1940s fabric re-made into a coat.
  • Child's white polyester ensemble; fabric looks like linen. A. Coat; Peter Pan collar piped in navy; four navy button front closure; navy braid with white flowers applied at cuffs; fully lined. B. Dress; sleeveless; navy blue braid with white flowers at dropped yoke; inverted front pleats; center back zipper closure with ties; fully lined

  • A. Red silk taffeta evening gown with silk-screened palmetto frond design; motifs outlined in black beads on bodice; large circles on stem separated by 4 leaves on front skirt; square neckline; short sleeves; empire waistline; A-line skirt has inverted box pleat at center front, 2 pleats at back; black satin ribbon attached at waistline; center back zipper closure; internal corset; lined in red rayon.

    Goes with stole (Object ID #2003.03.11.b) and coat (Object ID #2003.03.11.c) to form three piece set.

    Worn by donor Aileen Ryan. The fabric was designed by Sister Remy Revor based on a historic Milwaukee design. The ensemble was created on designer Rosalie Macrini's receipt of an award from Mount Mary College in the late 1960s.

    This ensemble was the first official donation to Mount Mary's Historic Costume Collection (now the Fashion Archive).
