Inspired by an eighteenth century gentleman's frock coat. B. Skirt; very slim; bias bound slash pockets and slim skirt with bias bound slash pockets; zipper on left side. C. Putty colored silk jacquard vest; pattern of gray, beige, and brown leaves; shawl collar; seven self-covered buttons and bound buttonholes; fitted; pointed center front; watch pocket on right side; back is plain putty colored silk, underlined in matching silk; half belt with pewter colored metal buckle.

  • Off-white silk chiffon over silk evening gown with blue rose print; V-neckline in front, square neckline in back; square set-in sleeves. Worn with evening coat (Object ID #1983.239).

    Worn by Lynn Fontanne to receive a special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in 1970, although the gown was created much earlier. This gown was possibly made by Valentina, but has been significantly altered. Purchased at the auction of Lynn Fontanne's estate using funds from Mount Mary alumnae.
  • Royal blue silk shantung stole with flocked black linear daisy pattern; Pelerine type; shaped triangle with black silk taffeta linging used as binding; double snap closure. Possibly not designed by Valentina due to different construction techniques. Worn by Valentina.

Blue floral print cotton dress; fabric pattern of abstracted white and yellow flowers and a floating man playing a green violin; jewel neckline; short kimono sleeves; fitted bodice; side zipper closure; full skirt has been shortened, hem is now released; it is likely the dress was originally mid-calf length and has been shortened to knee length. B. Blue floral print cotton belt; fabric pattern of abstracted white and yellow flowers; 5/8 inches wide; covered buckle.

    Fabric designed by Marc Chagall. Worn as a "going away" dress on May 5, 1956 for wedding at St. Sebastian's church.
