  • White and deep purple striped silk broadcloth evening ensemble. A. Gown; high collar neckline; long slim sleeves; cut on bias to create diagonal strip; straight silhouette ending in eleven inch flounce; back zipper closure; ankle length. B. Scarf; bias cut; 125 inches long. Custom made for Hildegarde as a performance gown.
  • Deep purple silk jacquard evening ensemble. A. Blouse; bateau neckline; puffed sleeves with interior heading; uneven hemline, pulled up and pleated at left side hip revealing left leg; lined with China silk. B. Skirt; inverted pleats at center front knee level to floor; full evening length; elastic waist; unlined.
  • Bright yellow linen ensemble. A. Over-blouse; low round neckline; white V-shaped insert at neckline banded with purple; full center back zipper closure. B. Suit jacket; semi-fitted; 1.5 inch mandarin collar; 3/4 length sleeves; mock flap pockets. C. Suit skirt; pleated; three 4 inch front inverted pleats; fully lined.

    Worn by donor Mrs. FitzSimmons to the horse races. The winning horse was called "Stupendous," and Mrs. FitzSimmons was wearing the jockey's colors of yellow and purple.
  • Off-white straw picture hat; 4 .5 inch round crown; purple straw band with large cluster of velveteen violets at right side; 4.5 inch brim. Donor was Frank Olive's sister.

  • Black flannel overcoat; jewel neckline with purple fox fur collar, center front opening with two large black buttons at neck and waist, long set-in sleeves with purple fox fur cuffs, unlined.
  • One shoulder purple velvet and taffeta gown; shoulder strap on left, built-in corset of black mesh, taffeta over-drape covering the bust and creating a large skirt to the right side, taffeta drape lined in clear polyester mesh to stiffen, left side zipper, bow on shoulder and on right side of skirt at the hip, ankle length. Line across the skirt where it probably draped across a hanger.
  • White abstract print silk taffeta evening jacket; large abstract figures silk-screened onto jacket with horizontal rows of purple, dark pink, orange, and aqua; V-neckline; center front opening ties to gold leaf button; long set-in sleeves; vertical quilting lines; lined in white silk; hip length.

  • A. Purple crepe back satin evening gown; Grecian inspired, very deep U-shaped neckline, sleeveless with shoulder pads. A-line skirt, ankle length. Unlined. B. Very long sash of the same fabric. Possibly worn by Lynn Fontanne.
  • Purple felt fedora; 4 inch brim, turned up at center back; 4 inch stand with rounded crown; 1/2 inch felt hatband with bow at right side front.
    Donor was Frank Olive's sister.
  • Aubergine four-ply silk crepe evening gown; high exaggerated mandarin collar; one set-in sleeve, one batwing sleeve; draped from right shoulder; asymmetric bias cut; slim silhouette; deep released pleat on left side; asymmetric zipper closure on grain which creates drapery; yellow metal and purple glass antique brooch near throat; long. Custom made as a performance gown exclusively for Hildegarde.
  • Lavender matte silk jersey evening gown; peignoir style, V-shaped neckline, ¾ length sleeves, square-set armscye, high waistline, twisted fabric caught in side bodice and wrapped through center front slit, flare skirt, bias cut, full length, unlined. All inside seams hand-overcast, hand-rolled hem. Worn by Valentina.
  • Multicolored double knit dress; pieced sections - red section at right front shoulder, dark green on right, dark purple lower skirt; jewel neckline; sleeveless; straight shift silhouette; center back zipper closure; lined; knee length.

    Worn by Peg Bradley. This dress is from Yves Saint Laurent's Pop Collection of 1965-66 and is featured in the Metropolitan Museum of Art's catalog of the exhibition of his work. It is identified as his "Poliakoff" dress, inspired by the paintings of Serge Poliakoff.
  • Purple, brown, and white plaid plain weave wool shirt dress; collarless; two French darts; long dolman sleeves with fitted cuffs; gathered bias cut skirt; eleven brass hook and eye closures.
  • Purple double knit dress; oversized funnel collar; plain short sleeves; fitted through torso; insets and style seams front and back; flares out below waist to knee length; center front seam, side seams, and zipper closure at center back seam, with hook and eye closure at neck.

    The donor, Lois Perlewitz, constructed this dress in Sister Aloyse Hessburg's Couture class.
  • A. Purple wool jersey day dress; turtleneck collar, edged in purple suede; long sleeves; above the knee length; unfitted except for bust darts; pearl snaps across shoulders; large pockets in side seams. B. Purple suede tie belt.
  • Black paisley challis dress; black ground with printed purple paisley; T-shape trapeze shape; mandarin collar; multiple released tucks around collar; puffed sleeves with cuff; flared, knee length skirt; cut on the bias; china silk lining.
  • A. Multicolored silk taffeta coat; screen-printed in geometric motifs with large areas of light blue; large green diamond shape at front waist; on chest is floral motif in dark blue within pink purple octagon; jewel neckline; center front opening; long set-in sleeves; below knee length; lined in yellow taffeta.

B. Self-fabric belt; 2 hook and bar closures.

  • Purple velvet evening coat with machine-embroidered pink roses and metallic green leaves; small embroidered green leaves scattered throughout. A-line; winged collar; three fabric covered buttons and bound buttonhole center front closure; swing shape; drop shoulder sleeves with two diagonal darts at wrist; inseam pockets; midcalf length; lined in brownish red satin. Worn by Valentina. Possibly not designed by Valentina due to different construction techniques, but instead a costume built by Kerenskaya.
