Black floral brocade cocktail jacket with flowers in pink, purple, and maroon and metallic gold leaves; standing collar; zipper front closure; long set-in sleeves; bodice very fitted at waist; lined in black silk; just below waist length. B. Maroon silk taffeta cocktail bubble skirt; three rows of ruffles at hem; contour waistband; side zipper closure; above the knee length.

Jacket; long and fitted; notched collar; long revers; set-in long sleeves, self-button closure at cuffs; set-in pointed front lapels; three graduated-size self-covered buttons; center front hem has seven inch long cut-away to reveal vest underneath; seven inch long center back vent; lined in beige silk crepe. Inspired by an eighteenth century gentleman's frock coat. B. Skirt; very slim; bias bound slash pockets and slim skirt with bias bound slash pockets; zipper on left side. C. Putty colored silk jacquard vest; pattern of gray, beige, and brown leaves; shawl collar; seven self-covered buttons and bound buttonholes; fitted; pointed center front; watch pocket on right side; back is plain putty colored silk, underlined in matching silk; half belt with pewter colored metal buckle.
  • White floral silk chiffon evening ensemble; yellow, lavender, and pink flowers with green leaves. A. Gown; slip style; low V-neckline; beige spaghetti straps; two layers printed silk chiffon and three layers plain white silk chiffon; floor length. B. Poncho; seams at center front and back; open at sides; self-covered button closure at neck. C. Scarf; pieced to form shoulder yoke with flounce. Custom made for Hildegarde as a performance gown.

White floral silk twill dress; printed with orange poppies with green and brown leaves; V-neckline with bias banding; narrow straps in front; empire waist; tucks on skirt at waistline; slim straight skirt; hook and eye closures at center back; zipper has possibly been removed; mid-calf length. B. White silk crepe slip; detached from dress. C. White floral silk twill cape; printed with orange poppies with green and brown leaves; slits at sides and center back; lined in white silk. Cape was likely attached to dress originally.
  • Printed cotton piqué ensemble; A. Jacket; fabric is large-scale floral bouquets of red and yellow flowers with green sprays on a black ground; abstract watercolor effect; motif woven on a waffle ground; sleeves of jacket have design of red and yellow dots; high points at neckline front; six covered buttons and loops over the waist; fitted at the front and back waist with three darts on each side; 3/4 length leg-o-mutton sleeves; lined in black china silk. B. Skirt; design of red and yellow dots; straight skirt; straight waistband; knee length; lined. C. Hair comb; deep pink ostrich feather and orange fabric flower attached to plastic comb.
  • Warp print white taffeta gown with pattern of bouquets of light blue roses with green leaves, rosebuds scattered about. A. Halter top bodice; jewel neckline with center front slit, low back with a long center back zipper. Lined in slubby silk plain weave. B. Long skirt; gathered into straight waistband, side inseam pockets, ankle length, unlined, hand finished. C. Stole; rectangular. Possibly this material was pleated and attached to the back of the halter top to form a bustle. Worn by Valentina.
  • Royal blue silk shantung stole with flocked black linear daisy pattern; Pelerine type; shaped triangle with black silk taffeta linging used as binding; double snap closure. Possibly not designed by Valentina due to different construction techniques. Worn by Valentina.

Worn with coat (Object ID #2004.03.368.A) to form three piece suit.

Evening gown; strapless; interior bodice built over a strapless, longline bra; asymmetrical front; straight skirt; ankle length; multiple pleats at kick vent. B. Wrap; rectangular; lined with wool crepe.
  • A. Gold lamé evening gown; rose motifs outlined in pearls, bugle beads and diamontes; sleeveless; slight scoop front neckline, dipping to lower scoop in back; long panel attached at back shoulders. B. Royal blue velvet stole; 18 x 118 inches. Gown and stole form performance ensemble worn by Hildegarde.
  • Navy blue jersey and satin evening gown; fit and flare; mock turtleneck; long straight sleeves; jersey bodice; satin stripe skirt overprinted with roses; center back zipper closure; wrap-around skirt; accordion pleated ruffle down left side front opening and on bottom; navy blue satin attached ribbon belt with fabric rose at left side front; full length.
  • Off-white silk chiffon over silk evening gown with blue rose print; V-neckline in front, square neckline in back; square set-in sleeves. Worn with evening coat (Object ID #1983.239).

    Worn by Lynn Fontanne to receive a special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in 1970, although the gown was created much earlier. This gown was possibly made by Valentina, but has been significantly altered. Purchased at the auction of Lynn Fontanne's estate using funds from Mount Mary alumnae.
